Heather Kuzma

Hi! My name is Heather, and I am an intern at SAGE Therapy Services. I am currently pursuing my Master of Social Work degree at Western New Mexico University. I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Stockton University in 2006 and have more than 15 years of experience working in social services.

Throughout my journey, I have had the opportunity to work with individuals and families in a variety of settings. My experience includes working with adolescents as a school-based youth counselor, supporting survivors and families at a domestic violence agency, working with children and families through the Division of Child Protection and Permanency, and providing behavioral support to youth in my current role as a Behavioral Assistant. These experiences have strengthened my understanding of trauma, family systems, and the importance of meeting each person where they are in life.

I approach my work from a person-centered and strengths-based perspective, with an emphasis on creating a supportive and nonjudgmental environment. I believe clients are the experts in their own lives, and I value self-determination, empowerment, and building on the strengths each person brings to the therapeutic process.
